Today, I went swimming with J and her grandma Y, in order to have under-water photos taken of J diving etc. Unfortunately, today she wasn't very keen on diving but they took some pictures of the two of us from under the surface. I hope they turn out.

2 step
Today J took her first couple of steps all by herself - no hands!!!!
Amazing to see the progress.....in a months time she has learned to first crawl and now she's almost walking. No wonder she's been a bit cranky! :)

Don't feel left out if you didn't make the list...my imagination ran dry :) Got the idea from a CD J got from D. Childrens songs with titles like "Rita the Cheetah", "Horace the Hysterical Hyena" and "Bongi the Boisterous Buffalo".
Anyway, it was just one of these silly things you do on a Saturday afternoon when entertaining an 11-month old girl (honestly, I probably had the most fun..)

SWING
Yesterday J had her first trying of a swing...and she loved it!! We've had beautiful pre-spring weather here lately, but the wind is still pretty chilly.
Well, who cares when the cherry trees are all in blossom!!! I love the spring. And we got J her first pair of sandals today and some new toys - all second hand.
Second hand is great, especially for babies. I mean, they don't really wear out their clothes.
Well, gotta go back to dinner. J didn't refuse lunch today - horray!

The business of being born
A few weeks ago I went to a showing of a documentary about giving birth in the US. It's called "The business of being born", check out the website here.
The documentary focus on the fact that women in the States (probably true about some other places too) are forgetting about how to give birth(and the fact that it's natural and has been done for ever!) and don't actually have time for it. In New York City, one of the hospitals have 50 % C-sections of all the babies they deliver - a lot of woman want to schedule so they know when to have the baby and want as little pain as possible. They interviewed some medical students (I think they were training to be obstetricians) and they had never seen a natural birth!!
One doctor they talked to said that C-section is very "doctor friendly" - 20 minutes and it's done.
In the States it's got a lot to do with liability too. So they monitor in every way they can, to be double-sure. In the process, unfortunately they forget about the mother and baby. For example, giving birth in a hospital you'll be on your back because it's the best position for the staff, not actually the best and most helpful position for the mother.
Also they said that even though the US is a developed country with high and advanced technology they have almost the highest rate of babies dying at birth of any other developed country in the world!!! Now that is scary!
I'm rambling, but if you have a chance you should see this documentary, because I might not have gotten all the facts right in this post.

Life with a toodler-to-be
Well, J is soon a toddler. Perhaps she'll start walking before we leave for the States. It's a wonderful life - right now for example she refuses to eat anything but oatmeal and fruit and bread! And she's started trying out her balance, letting go for a while. Standing there, she looks like a surfer. :)

Mördarsniglar och flip flops
April är här och mars avslutades med snö - till min förtjusning måste jag nog ändå säga. Hoppas alla mördarsniglarna dog! :)
Today D has had some time to himself and J and I have been out and about doing the town! We went shopping. J got a bathrobe and I got to dream a bit about buying new clothes. Or maybe I should just forget about new clothes and make it easy for myself and do what our local hippie does - he just wears the same outfit all year round, including flip flops (even in the winter - thats' hard core).
Well I don't feel like I have the creativity to write anymore about my day.This is it. Good night.
